Sydney Supanova 2019

Late last month I took the step of attending my first interstate Pop Culture convention, being Sydney Supanova, held at the Sydney Showgrounds, in Olympic Park. It was a trip I had been planning and wanted to do for just over a year, and this time the timing was right.

It not only gave me a chance to see some of the sights of Sydney as a tourist, but also a packed weekend meeting the local Sydney Cosplayers and a lot of photos being taken.

It was also good to see some Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth Cosplayers at Sydney Supanova also. Especially the Brisbane ones, it was great to see some familiar faces amongst the masses.

It was interesting to me that at Sydney Supanova, was the large variety of different fandoms represented, from Marvel and DC characters to Star Wars and Star Trek, through to a few different cosplays, such as Rhonda McDonald, Danny Sexbang and Mettatron (from the game Undertale).

Saturday evening was great night, catching up with some of the cosplayers for an evening meal and socialising (without a camera in my hand).

For the work I did over the weekend, I shot with cosplayers that were Shazam, Doctor Strange, Captain Cold and Heatwave, Reptile (from Mortal Combat), Ariel and Ursula (from The Little Mermaid), Punk Robin and Nightwing, Redhood, Mettatron, and the list goes on.

Having been so well received in Sydney and by the Sydney Cosplayers, I’m already making plans to head back to Sydney for Oz Comic Con in a few months.

In the meantime, here are some of the highlights of Sydney Supanova, starting with some random random shots of different cosplayers.

Below: Some of the shots and Edits from one on one shoots over the weekend.
